Every year since 2001 the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation holds the Phoenix Summit Challenge and URock Festival. The event raises awareness and funds for Phoenix trails; while allowing people to challenge themselves. The event is popular among locals but also attracts individuals from all over the US and world. The 2015 event held on November 14th brought together over 1000 people. There are multiple levels of the event which allows a wide range of individuals to participate. Some choose to attack the challenge as a solo endeavor, while others choose to form teams. The event ends with music, food, prizes and libations at one of the Phoenix Mountain Preserves.
This year I joined a team with the Arizona Hiking Shack (an original sponsor of the event) to complete the 7 Summit Challenge. This category starts at 5AM and climbs to the top of multiple iconic high points around the valley. 25 miles and over 5000 feet of climbing later we found ourselves enjoying music, food and replaying the events of the day. If you would like to find out more about the event you can follow the link to the City of Phoenix website.
