At the end of some adventures, waiting for a shower is nearly impossible. Baby wipes work ok, but it takes multiple to even get close to being clean. Car side showers work also, but the involve preparing to be dirty (which isn't always the case). I had heard about Action Wipes years ago when listening to the Bicycle Radio Podcast. Evidently they were pretty popular with the cross riders. A few months ago I entered a contest through the Vegan Outdoor Adventures Blog and won some of the Action Wipes products. Excited to test out something a little different, I immediately started getting dirty!
The Short Story- The first time I used the wipes I had been out mountain biking some local trails for a few hours and my legs were caked with dirt; my face was covered in salt; and my arms covered in blood from taking a fall. I cracked open the multi-pack I keep in the trunk of my car and started in. Within a few minutes the dirt, salt and blood was nearly untraceable. Although I had done this in the past with hypoallergenic baby wipes before, the Action Wipes left me feeling cleaner. I am not sure if it was the slightly abrasive texture of the wipes or the combination of oils, but it worked.
Since that initial test I have used them to clean up after a rare muddy Central Arizona mountain bike ride. It worked just as well as the first time. The wipes have a great balance of moisture to remove debris, but not be a soggy towel. The best part of using them was that I knew it wasn't ending up in a landfill at the end. I tossed it into my laundry and it came out like new. I repurposed them as house cleaning and bike cleaning rags and they have worked excellent.
The best part about the Action Wipes are that they come in a large 30 pack, a smaller 10 pack and also individually wrapped. With this I am able to keep the large package in the back of my car for day to day cleaning. The smaller pack is great for traveling when I know I will only need a few. The individually wrapped ones worked great on multi-day trips. At only half and ounce they make for a lightweight option to carrying extra water to clean up with.
Final Thoughts- Action Wipes provide a excellent solution to not bathing during, between or after adventures. When water isn't plentiful these can be the solution. The simple ingredients, durability and reusability have made these a necessity for my adventures. At only around $1 a piece they can easily fit into a dirtbag's budget. As a added bonus the Action Wipes are certified vegan. You can check out Action Wipes at their website, and I suggest snagging a few for your upcoming adventures.
