The holidays had passed and our first three day weekend of 2019 came around. We decided to spend an evening in a yurt at the Arizona Nortic Village in Flagstaff, AZ. Most likely due to the holiday there was only one evening available, so we packed the car and headed up Saturday afternoon for some snow play.
After dodging children playing in the snow along the highway we finally made it to Arizona Nortic Village. The place was packed with families enjoying the snow. After getting situated in our yurt and strapping our snow shoes on we headed out on the trails.
The hoards of people were quickly left behind near the facilities as we headed out on the trails. Everything was well marked and the trails were enjoyable.
Over all we had a fun time exploring the well groomed trails of the Arizona Nortic Center. After playing in the snow we came back to our yurt hoping to enjoy the warmth of our wood burning stove. Unfortunately all our wood was soaked, and we did our best to get a fire going. Unsuccessful, we gave up and unrolled our sleeping bags. At least we had those to enjoy as the temperature dropped. If we did this trip again we would rent a cabin rather then the yurt as those seemed easier to cook, keep try and enjoy. We will save our yurt adventures for the backcountry.
