Multiple times a year I find myself headed to Tucson and driving past Picacho Peak. Nearly every time we have the dog with us or are pressed for time and can't stop. I have repeatedly said that we need to make a special trip just to hike this peak. Finally that day came.
The trail we wanted to do was Hunter Trail. Basically a straight shot up to the summit. Some of the route is assisted by cables and the hike is not recommended for inexperienced hikers. The hike is only 3 miles round trip but it will definitely get your heart going. If you are looking for a short challenging hike or need a break on your drive to Tucson this is a great pitstop.
