Seven or eight years ago I made a large shift in my lifestyle. This shift created unforeseen problems that to this day still have not been resolved. One of those issues is body odor and the outdoors. They seem to go hand and hand. Yes you can use commercially available antiperspirant and deodorant but these tend to be peppered with questionable ingredients. Additionally there is something unnatural about reducing the natural mechanism (sweating) that assist in keeping your body temperature regulated.
This issue leaves you two options. You can buy commercially available products (preferably vegan) that are ridiculously priced. The other option is to use DIY concoctions that claim to suppress body odor. The problem I have found is that the DIY solutions seem to be designed for low activity individuals. Nothing tried has stood up to the rigors of multi-hour trail runs or bike commuting in 113 degrees. I was beginning to think I was asking too much, until I recently stumbled on a DIY recipe on a vegan blog that claimed to have the solution.
Three ingredients, no cooking, and a simple recipe were the selling features of The Spooky Vegan's deodorant recipe. Like a good friend, I took the liberty of testing this one for you. Hot bike commutes, and long runs were the primary gauge for just how well this can work. I also nominated my girlfriend to help with the testing. She was in charge of the post workout sniff test. As you can imagine, she was thrilled! After a few weeks of testing, I will confirm that the recipe works. Not only does it keep the stink away, I found no reason to reapply the deodorant throughout the day. That is something that is not possible with any commercially available product I have tested. The mixture is easy to apply in a liquid form or can be frozen. I prefer the ease of the liquid form. Massage a pea sized amount of the deodorant into each underarm and you should be good. Occasionally the concoction got on my shirts when getting dressed; but was easily removed with water. Thanks again to the The Spooky Vegan blog for providing the end all solution.
