Standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon I remember why it is worth going through the effort to get permits. Luckily a friend ended up having a spot open on their trip and I was available to fill it. We were headed to a new part of the canyon for me. I had been to down Grandview Trail to the West and out to the Cape Solitude on the East but never in between. We started down the Tanner Trail headed directly to the Colorado River. From there we began the Escalante Route which is a non-maintained route primarily following the river, give or take a few 1000ft. This led us to the Tonto Trail (AKA: The Highway). Which delivered us to Grandview for our final climb out the canyon. The trip took 4 days and 3 nights, could be cut down if need be. The route finding along the Escalante Route is challenging, but not terrible. The scenery is.....well, let the pictures speak for themselves.
