Cravings happen in life, especially when out on the trail. After hours of running only consuming bars or gels these cravings hit hard. When you get back from your run it is easy to break down and eat junk, but there are alternatives. Healthier alternatives, that don't cancel out the hard work you just put in. Below is a recipe for my favorite healthy and delicious snack for those times when I need dessert.
I came across this recipe a few years back when I was deep in the raw food movement. There are lots of healthy dessert recipes around, but very few are as simple as this one. Banana ice cream has one ingredient and can be made in minutes if frozen bananas are available.

Banana Ice Cream-

Things You Will Need-
  • 4-5 ripe bananas per serving
  • Toppings if Desired
  • Food Processor or Industrial Blender

Steps-
  1. Peel ripe bananas and place in freezer for 2-3 hours. You can place unpeeled bananas in the freezer also, but you will need to let them partially thaw before making the ice cream. I tend to just keep a few frozen ones on hand, just in case I get the desire to whip up some ice cream.
  2. Remove the frozen bananas and place in a food processor. Process using the S-Blade till desired consistency is achieved. I prefer a soft serve style.
  3. That is it! You have ice cream!

It seems to easy to be good, but something about the frozen bananas makes the concoction taste just like ice cream. Feel free to spruce it up with peanuts, other fruit, or my favorite Tai Shan Farms Chocolate Honey (seriously it is delicious  on ice cream!).
